In her greeting speech during the award ceremony, Ms. Mia-Fatima Dubois-Boussaid, Project Manager of the Delegation of the European Union to the Kyrgyz Republic, noted that saving energy and water allows Kyrgyzstan become more resilient to climate change. She stressed that by investing in energy efficient homes in Kyrgyzstan, the EU is investing the creation of a more affordable, healthier and more comfortable living environment for citizens and notably the most vulnerable segments of the society.

«KYRSEFF II is a rational continuation of the excellent cooperation between EU and Kyrgyzstan already ongoing. In the eyes of the EU, Kyrgyzstan has proven itself a pioneer in many aspects of sustainable energy.

KyrSEFF II will last 5 years and from the EU’s side, we have allocated 9.6 million Euro to it. It is a very tangible reward for companies that have invested in energy efficiency, in low carbon technology and wastewater management. This new facility goes beyond energy efficiency and includes water resource efficiency investments in Kyrgyz homes and businesses», – said Ms. Mia-Fatima Dubois-Boussaid.

Mr. Azamat Ibraimov, the EBRD representative, also highlighted the importance of promoting resource efficiency: “We, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, pay great attention to energy efficiency projects. SEFF programs, supported by EBRD, are being implemented not only in Kyrgyzstan but in many other countries, too. Financing the SEFF projects we are witnessing an improvement in the business sector, its increasing resilience as well as the resilience of the region as a whole.”

According to the National Manager of KyrSEFF Program, Ms. Nurzat Abdyrasulova, highlighting successful cases in the mass media in the Kyrgyz Republic does not only raise awareness but also demonstrates that everything is possible and can be done at the local level.
